1958 Kombi, 92,000 Miles

1958 Kombi, 92,000 Original Miles, Original Engine, Cool Patina Bus!

Here's a very cool early Bus in the original color of L31 Dove Blue, pressed bumpers, original 36hp engine, all 3 rows of early seats in original upholstery, fresh bias ply tires, just a very fun and stock patina Bus.

The Bus was parked for many years, was revived a couple years back, and has been a regular attendee to local Southern California shows. On the way to a recent show the Bus developed a rod knock so the engine will need to be rebuilt or replaced, hence the generous price reduction.

The body is wearing a very old respray in the original color of Dove Blue from early in its 57 years of life. It has the correct doors, pressed bumpers, thick doglegs, flat wheel wells, high mounted glass taillights, correct flat decklid, crankstart apron, and original 15 inch slotted Bus wheels, too. There is bit of rust in a few places including the bottom of the driver's door and dogleg area, the cargo floor, the cargo rocker, the front floor corners, and a spot in the front of the roof, too. Nothing catastrophic and most of us West Coast guys would keep enjoying it just as it is. It is all well documented in the full album of pics on my website at

The interior is very nice for its age, impressively original, and has all 3 correct flat backrest seats in the original black commercial upholstery, very nice uncut dash with the 70mph speedometer, original radio block off plate intact, nice original front floor mat, original pressed board paneling (some missing as you can see), and lots of Dove Blue and flat Grey paint just as early Kombis had.

Mechanically it *was* a turnkey driver until the rod knock happened a few weeks ago, was enjoyed regularly, is very stock, and features the original 1192cc 36hp engine, split case transaxle, and 6 volt electrical system as well. It has a fresh set of Firestone 6.40-15 bias ply tires on the original 15 inch Bus wheels, grey German hubcaps, and recent brakes, too. With an engine rebuild or installing a different engine, it will be a fun driver again.

Here's your chance to get a very cool, correct, complete, and lovable early Kombi that is in a condition that you'll be plenty proud to own but not so nice that you won't relax and enjoy it often. As always, serious parties please feel free to contact for additional information. Thanks!

Please note that this cool early Kombi is located in West Covina, California and the Hurst bumper is NOT included as it has already been sold.
