1963 15 Window OG Paint

1963 15 Window Walkthru Deluxe Microbus, Original Turkis and Blue White Paint!

This cool survivor early 1963 15 Window was discovered in the dry climate of Utah some years back by a Volkswagen enthusiast after having been off the road for many years.  The stale air 40hp engine had been removed, needed rebuilding, and the owner pulled out the middle seat, and placed the engine inside the Bus on the cargo floor.  It sat for many years before being purchased, the new owner had the engine rebuilt, cleaned the Bus up, serviced it as necessary, and returned it to the road.  It has been about 5 or 6 years and the engine now has approximately 1,000 miles on it since the rebuild.

Some of the many features to note include:

*Early 1963 with Outie Vents
*Mostly Original Turkis and Blue White Paint
*Factory Walkthru Model
*Factory 6 Popout Windows
*Most Original Como Green Interior Panels are present
*Stale Air 40hp Engine, believed to be the original engine
*Awesome natural patina
*Original Front and Rear Seats, later model Middle Seat
*Impressively solid, minimal rust
*Currently running, driving, registered
*Vintage 1977 Utah State Inspection Decal still intact on windshield
*Serviced and maintained by advanced Volkswagen collectors
*Recently attended the Nor Cal Treffpunkt Volkswagen & Porsche event in Concord, California

The body is in impressively good condition for being unrestored and now 55 years young.  The Turkis and Blue White paint is mostly original, the body is remarkably straight, solid, and has all the correct doors, bumpers, decklid, apron, and wheels, too.  There are some bonks, dings, and small spots of rust in the usual places, nothing catastrophic, and way nicer than most unrestored survivors here in 2018.  Other details to note are that all of the aluminum Deluxe body moulding, rocker spears, vent trim, and bumper trim are present as well as the rear window jailbars.

The interior is mostly original and features the correct front walk thru seats, the original rear seat, and the middle seat is out of a later model Bus.  The Como Green panels are mostly intact, could benefit from being being reboarded, and a new mohair headliner would certainly help bring the Bus to its full potential, too.

Mechanically the Bus is a full turnkey driver, was revived approximately 5 years ago, and has been driven sparingly since it returned to the road.  The engine is a proper Stale Air 40hp 1200cc and is believed to be the original engine to the Bus.  A Birth Certificate from Volkswagen would be the way to confirm that belief.  The transaxle, brakes, suspension, and wheels are all stock, too.  The Bus has been maintained by a couple of well-respected and longtime Volkswagen collectors who are also from the Concord, California area, which is where the Bus resides.  It was recently driven out to the Nor Cal Treffpunkt event and took the owner and his entire family out to the show.  I also attended that show and can tell you that this Bus was one of the favorites of the early Bus community there.

Overall this is a very cool and lovable Bus, a desirable model and color combo, and it could easily continue to be enjoyed as it is, or it could see some benefits from further finessing as the survivor that it is.

I don't expect this one to last!  Thanks!
