1964 Beetle, Solid!

1964 Panama Beige Beetle, Dry, Clean, and Well-Cared-For Example!  113,000 Original Miles!

If you've been hunting for a dry, clean, and unmodified early Beetle these days, you've certainly realized that there is a multitude of pure crap out there and nice examples are continually harder to find.  This is most definitely one of the nicer examples you will see.
This two mature adult owner Panama Beige 1964 was bought brand new at Al Lyon Volkswagen in Napa, California nearly 50 years ago.  The original owner was a bookkeeper for Pacific Bell and was meticulous about keeping records on all the service performed on the car.  Additionally, and very importantly, the Beetle was always stored in a garage since new which is a huge factor in how it is so rock solid and clean till this day.  The original 40hp engine, California black license plates, one Al Lyon Volkswagen dealer plate frame, the owner's manual, and the dealer booklet are still with the car!

The body is in impressive and incredibly dry condition.  The exterior was resprayed at the dealership back in the 1970's and is a tad darker than the original shade.  The paint is very thick with no primer coming through and there is a bit of fading through to the original coat of Panama Beige on the front fenders.  The car was tapped in the front end long ago and the driver's side rear fender was replaced long ago as well.  The original German bumpers are still on the car and the front features a EMPI bumper bar, too.  The original 15 inch smoothie wheels have been sandblasted, powdercoated black, and the faces have been sprayed with the correct white detail.  The glass is all original and the window rubber and running board mats were recently replaced with quality parts from Wolfsburg West.  And last but not least, the original pan is in great shape with no rust, even under the battery.

The interior features original paint, original headliner, newer TMI seat covers and door panels, and the original tar boards are still intact beneath the newer carpeting.  Details to note include the original "Fasten Seat Belts" sticker on the dash, original radio block off plate, and the original cardboard glove box as well.

Mechanically this Beetle is completely stock with the original 40hp fresh air engine that is still running well, a stock transaxle, original wheels, and the electrical system is still 6 volt, too.  The engine was rebuilt in the late 1980's, has been well-maintained, and still shows good compression readings when recently checked.  The owner has performed some extensive servicing on the car in the last few years including the following...

*New Tires, approximately 2,000 miles on them.
*New German Brakes including master, wheel cylinders, hoses, painted drums and backing plates, and new German rear drums.
*New Axle Boots, rear bearings, and seals.
*Repacked front bearings, new seals, rebuilt king pins.
*New Ebrake Cables.
*New Generator.
*New Starter.
*New Interstate 6 Volt Battery, correct size, original strap and battery cover still intact.
*New Rear Main Seal.
*New German Clutch.
*New KYB Shocks.

The car was driven on a 150 mile trip this last Summer and performed without issue.

There is also a Parts Is Parts reproduction wood slat roof rack that will be included as well as the original big cap distributor, a front bra, and some other little nick knacks and small parts that have been kept for this car.  The original California black license plates will come with the car and very importantly, old California registration cards reflecting those plates are still with the car, too.  That way if the car is sold to California, it will be a snap to re-register those plates to the car without having to pay the Year Of Manufacture plate fees!  Thanks!
